Make time for what counts
When you're stressed, the solution is to work smarter, not harder. Working with Google Ads quickly brings many tasks that take a long time. It will be good to automate where it is possible to automate, and let the system do a lot of the job for you – then you end up with a more efficient job every day.
An important prerequisite for a successful Google Ads account is largely the maintenance of it. However, many daily maintenance procedures may be referred to as hygiene factors. They alone, don't make the account a success story, but they're critical to success.
A good maintenance routine involves a number of tasks that can be very time consuming and are experienced as a one-timer. This is time you can release to do what really counts -- the strategic problems.
Google Ads scripts allow you to automate several of your routine tasks using Javascript directly in your Google Ads account.
PS. All automated scripts can be downloaded at the bottom of this article
In INEVO we are busy releasing time to what gives results. Therefore, we have gathered an overview for you with 5 scripts we believe all Google Ads accounts should use.
1. Add all account search terms as negative keywords to the requested type of compliance in the DSA campaign(s).
Dynamic search ads are an ad type in Google Ads that generates ads based on the content of your website. Such campaigns cover the gaps between the content of the website and what you have ads for in Google Ads. This increases the visibility of products you have not even priorityd to create ads for, as well as the time-saving.
In an optimal Google Ads account, all search terms in the search campaigns should be added as negative keywords to the DSA campaign(s). This work may often be difficult to keep up with and become uninformed in an account with many campaigns, advertising groups and keywords.
The script automatically adds all search terms, from the search terms you select (you can select all), as negative search terms in the desired match type, to the account DSA campaign(s). We recommend adding them exactly.
2. Pause and start ad texts that send to product pages where the product is sold out and start them again when the product is back in stock.
Having an overview of which products are in stock and which products are sold out becomes more difficult, as more products are in the online store. Avoid annoying potential customers or paying for clicks into a page you know will not convert, by automatically pauseing any ads that lead in to a page with sold out products.
This script indexes the account URLs to a desirable number of times over a given time period (e.g. every hour). Furthermore, the script pauses all ads that lead to pages with sold out products. The script starts the ad again when the product is back in the online store.
Three. Script as a warning when ads send to bad landing pages.
Also avoid annoying potential customers or paying for click-in to a page you know will not convert by getting an email alert when your ads send to a:
- 404 page
- Products Empty in Repository
- Old pages where it says “archive”
- Season pages where for example it says “black Friday” or “July 2017”
4. Script that analyses and collects data on which parts of your ad creates involvement/ click.
This script allows you as an advertiser to see which parts of your ad text are doing well. This way you can a/b-test more advanced.
The script creates a report in Google spreadsheet where you can see as an advertiser how the various elements of your ad text are performing. The script aggregates data for the most commonly used headers, URLs, description lines and for the whole of the ad texts found in several locations in the account.
The script is available through Optmyzer for which you have to pay.
The script can be found in Optmyzer under the Enhances Scriptures and the article Ad Template Report.
5. Script that adjusts bids based on weather.
Using a lot of money to advertise for a product or service that is weather-based is not appropriate, as it can cost a lot of money without giving back much. Manually bidding relevant keywords for different parts of the country is a time consuming job.
This script lets you decide, for example, that the bid for the keyword “rainware” should increase by 50% in the countries where there is rain, while it can be lowered accordingly on sunny days.
