Sharings

Does sharing and likeness in social media affect your organic rankings? There's a relationship, but the mechanisms are composite.

How does involvement in social media affect your website ranking in Google?

You may have been wrong about the following statement; if you have a website/landing page that achieves good exposure (e.g. sharing, comments and likes) in social media such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc., you will achieve better organic visibility. That's not exactly right. Matt Cutts, from Google, says that Google does not use social media involvement as a ranking factor. On the other hand, you often see a correlation between websites that rank high in Google and the website's involvement in social media. In other words, that's not a direct reason for you to rank high, but it can affect how you rank.

How can social involvement affect your ranking in Google? Let's take Facebook as an example. In essence, there is a channel that can run traffic in your website. If you gain good engagement and good circulation on Facebook, you increase the likelihood of getting more people to visit your website. Among these visitors, there may be someone who will link to your website through their own website, and links are, however, a direct ranking factor for Google. These are the links that are why you rank higher, but social media circulation and involvement can affect whether other links to your website.

In the video below you can hear more about what Matt Cutts says about this.
