The more links, the better? The more external links (inbound links, back links) that point to your page, the better this is for your SEO. However, there are several factors to consider when looking at how many links you have compared to competing pages.
In the last few years as the algorithms of the search engines have become more advanced, it is quality on the links which determines how well your domain can rank. It makes little sense to try to bypass competitors in numbers by obtaining the most incoming links.
Nevertheless, there is still a sense of both many SEO advisors and in-house marketers that building links in large numbers is a sensible strategy for achieving good rankings and higher organic traffic.
“If we have 3 more links to our site, we will get past the competitor who is currently at the top of the search result for the xyz search phrase“ This is a philosophy that no longer works. When it comes to linking, the focus should rather be on creating good content (link to “what is good content”) and good pages that make people link to them voluntarily, and link in a natural way. After all, it is these links that search engines will consider most respectful, and that will actually help your pages climb the search results.
10 good links are better than 5 good links, but the focus on the number alone will rarely carry fruits within modern SEO.
