In this article we share best practices for online shops based on real world experience, including advice on adcreates, placement, design and text.

It is expected that the revenue from online shops in Norway will increase by 9% annuallySo let's say that this is the same thing as that.

If you grow with more than that, congratulations!

If not, what do you do to increase web sales- What?

The easiest thing you can do is ask Google.

The problem is that most people Online trade tips are generic.

For example, if you are Googler ”Ecommerce best practices‘, you will receive recommendations such as:

  • Add Social Evidence
  • Optimize for Mobile
  • Use AI
  • Add more images

It's not very useful, is it?

Of course, you can use AI, but these tips are not specific enough to be practical.

Enabled INEVO Blog we want to share practical advice with online shops.

That's why we've been talking to ours. web-commerce experts in INEVO, and asked them about specific best practices for online shops - tactics that are practical and easy to implement.

The tips below are based on practical experience.

In fact, it's our own best practices, which we use when we start working with new online stores.

And the best of all, they don't require any resources for development.

Are you ready to read our best practices for online shops?

So let's get started.

8 best practices for online stores

Human Processing Images 60000 times faster than text.

So instead of starting with suggestions on how to improve the text, we start with creatives.

And why you should always do more ads instead of just one.

Nora Aslaksrud, OMA & Team Lead, shares its best practices in ad creations.

Nora Aslaksrud

"All marketers have some starting point they like to follow.

When I make campaigns for online customers, regardless of platform, I like to start by making 2-5 advertisements, never again, never less (usually).

1 ad gives you no variation or interesting insight, and you rarely have more than 5 good ideas for an ad. For example, if I'm going to run ads on Facebook, it could be a collection ad, two different individual images adverts and a carousel.

A completely affordable mix of variation and insight to work with."

Vetle South Island, OMA & Team Lead, agree, and proceed one step further by proposing that you make advertisements with the company's colors to stand out.

Vetle South Island

"My best practice tip is to design your dynamic adverts.

Feed-based marketing is becoming more and more common, which is good for the algorithm. However, this makes your ads look exactly the same as most of your competitors.

You get a advantage by adding guidelines to your brand in the pictures of the fairy.

This can be done through several SaaS as Confect and Smartly."

Why is this so important?

It's creatives that capture the attention of social media:

Good creativity = good response. Poor creativity = poor response.

All social media marketers want to optimise their creativity to reduce costs and increase involvement and conversions.

It also depends on the campaign’s objectives, which Frida-Sofie Nyhuus, SoMe Specialist & OMA, tells about below:

Frida-Sofie Nyhuus

"My best practice tips for social media are to create high quality creatives.

Good creatives don't just get better and cheaper range in social media, they also convert better. I've seen it time and again with my customers.

I uploaded 16 different advertisements to an Advantage+ sales campaign at one customer. Recipes were most engaged, but the advertisement with pictures of a pastry led to most purchases and revenues."

Therefore, testing is important!

But it's not just about testing creations, it's at least as important to testing locationSo let's say that this is the same thing as that.

Here's what Niclas Nilsen, Head of SoMe & E-commerce Specialist, has to say about locations.

Niclas Nilsen

"People tend to forget how important it is to creates for each location in social media.

Do you remember when everything was designed to suit the mobile-first principle?

For social media, it's a principle that's almost equal.

INEVO recommends our customers to design for TikTok and Reels first. This can then be used for all square positions of Facebook and Instagram.

We see a major shift in what locations result in the Meta and Instagram, especially in lead and conversion campaigns.

Reels and Story require more conversions than it did a year ago. In some accounts we see that Reels and Story format dominate conversion and leave feed placement.

Therefore, my best practice for online stores is simply: do not forget the locations that tend to be ignored.

Not design for feed first, design for TikTok and Reels, and then crop it for feed." You have optimized your location and made good creatives to help you capture attention and drive traffic to your product pages.

So what can you do now?

This is where Theo's advice comes in.

Daniel Theodor Henriksen"Theo" is OMA and Team Lead at INEVO. His best practice tips for online commerce are related to product page improvements.

Daniel Theodor Henriksen

"Do not use large sums on paid marketing and expect to get good results HVIS you have not optimized your product page.

Set a default for what each product page must contain at least.

Look at:

  • Naming Convention for Products: Are they obvious, so that the customer immediately knows what he or she can expect?
  • Description: Covers consumer needs and wishes.
  • Pictures: At least 1 product picture and 2 environmental images

In short: Remove as much friction as possible and add purchase motivation. This is essential for the customer to consider buying from you at all, and not elsewhere."

This is leading us into Hannah Haraldsen Lindeliens (Head of Search) its best practice, which combines paid advertising, product feed and product pages.

Hannah Haraldsen Lindeliens

"A best practice for online shops is to customize and optimize their product feed. Not only does a well-optimised feed provide more relevant traffic, but also higher conversion rates and lower costs per conversion.

Focus TitlesSo let's say that this is the same thing as that. Often identical titles are sent as on the website into the feed, but the context of a Google Shopping ad or product carousel on Meta is completely different from inside your website.

Make sure to optimise your titles based on what your target group is looking for and what information they may need to click on your product.

The structure will vary from category to category, but a good title for e.g. shoes will be: "Mark + Model + Color + Category + Gender + Size".

Although I've been working with the most recent 10 years B2B SaaS companiesI also have experience working with online stores.

So even though my best practice for online commerce is based on old knowledge, it still applies today.

How can I be sure?

First of all, research supports itSo let's say that this is the same thing as that.

And second, I'm acting on the web, so I see how few online shops that actually use it on their website. I'm talking about video"...and I'm not gonna be able to do it."

A man in a blue shirt smiles at the camera.

"Video is powerful.

We consume more video content than ever before, but most online stores still use static images of their products.

This can be good for low-cost products, like a pair of socks or a knitted hat, but If you sell luxury products, you need to use video.

There doesn't have to be an advanced video production either. Start in the small and use your phone to record a 10-15 second product video of your best-selling product.

If sales increase, you can do the same for more products.

When you have a video recording, you can also use it in your social media campaigns."

Are you still not convinced about HOW to use product videos?

This might persuade you:

According to Marketing Exchange may: product videos increase the conversion rate by up to 57 %So let's say that this is the same thing as that.

(Note: Check out this article about why more online stores should blog!)

Our latest best practice for online commerce comes from Sebastian Stensli Melvold"OMA at INEVO.

Sebastian has been working online and e-mail marketing in the last two years, and this is what we had to recommend when we asked about his best practice:

Sebastian Stensli Melvold

"Do you need to send more emails in a welcome flow. Someone has shown interest in your brand.

Use the opportunity to present the brand from its best side, to show benefits in the customer club and, in particular, to convert this interest into a purchase."

When someone joins your newsletter, they expect to receive a thank-you mail.

But most online stores stop.

Do not make that error with marketing your online store.

As Sebastian says -- "Woe to send more emails" -- and see the conversions shooting in the weather.
