How to Create Quality Content (5 Practical Tips)

Ellen Berg
23.05.2023

Quality content is usually determined based on individual preferences.

Maybe you’re more interested in a quick and easy summary of a topic to spend just a few minutes on reading. Or, you want to take a deeper dive into a specific subject and get to the real hard-core details.

Either way, if you can produce content that's top-notch, people are going to value it, remember it - and (hopefully) share it like crazy.

When you're able to come up with fresh, relevant and useful material, you're in a great position to stand out from the crowd.

And people are investing heavily in more quality content: Over half of digital marketers are actively increasing their content output while simultaneously prioritizing the improvement of content quality.

Just remember, the key is to exceed the standards of the content that already ranks high in visibility.

That way, you can build a brand that's truly unique and of the highest quality.

In this article we take a look at 5 ways you can easily create high quality content today.

5 characteristics of quality content

Although there are a multitude of characteristics that can be applied to what is seen as “great quality content” today - here are the five biggest ones that we see coming around again and again:

  1. E-A-T: You clearly demonstrate your expertise, authority, and trustworthiness through your content. It shows that you know what you're talking about and can be relied upon.
  2. Reader-focused understanding: Your content truly understands the intent of your users, which is essential for creating valuable content that meets their requirements. You know exactly what they're looking for and you’re able to successfully provide it to them.
  3. Relevance and alignment: Your content is extremely relevant to your readers (and what they’re interested in) and perfectly matches your product or service(s). It's matched and tailored specifically to their needs.
  4. Diverse content formats: Your website contains comprehensive and expansive content that includes various types such as tables, infographics, and videos. It's not limited to just text but incorporates engaging visuals to enhance the overall experience.
  5. Enhanced user experience: You prioritize the delivery of a superior user experience, by ensuring fast loading times and incorporating interactive features.

5 ways to write good quality content

By following these 5 steps, you can be sure to produce content that truly resonates with your target audience.

1. Write for your buyers (and answer their questions)

When it comes to creating great content, one of the most important things is to write for your buyers. And actually make sure to answer their real and specific questions.

In fact: A whopping 52% of consumers actually expect brands to personalize their offers and messaging to cater to their individual needs.

Because by addressing their concerns and doubts about your product, service or sector, you’re well on your way to establish yourself as a reliable source. (And stand out from your competitors).

So to make sure your content actually resonates with your audience, it's essential to consider what your users want to read about.

Typically speaking: What are their interests, problems, and questions they are trying to solve?

Speaking with your sales department is a great way to learn about the questions customers are asking.

Conduct thorough audience research to really get to the bottom of who they are - what they want - and what they’re looking to solve with your product/service.

For example, in a piece of content that I wrote for Digizuite called “What Is DAM?” I made sure to address the specific questions that DAM buyers usually have - like how it uses metadata and what types of integrations it allows.

These people have firsthand experience with customer inquiries, and they can give you valuable insights into what your audience is looking for.

Secondly, there are some popular topics that people love reading about, regardless of the industry.

These include discussing prices, comparing products, or writing product reviews.

2. Make it clear and engaging

Now that you’ve understood what your key audience is concerned about, your next goal should be to create content that grabs their attention - and keeps them interested for longer than 5 seconds.

One of the best ways to do this is by making sure it's clear, engaging and easy to understand.

Go for simple language, short sentences, headings, and paragraphs.

Add some variety by using synonyms and varying the length of your sentences.

The more unique you make your style of writing and tone of voice, the more interesting your content gets.

But keep in mind there’s a balance, so don’t make it too creative to the point where it sacrifices understanding.

Here’s an example of some engaging language that I included in a blog post for Digizuite:

"Feel like it's becoming increasingly challenging to keep pace with the constantly evolving world of digital marketing? If that's the case, don't worry - a lot of us are in the same boat. Luckily, marketing technology, or MarTech, can be an easy way for your company to get ahead and stay up to speed with the changing digital landscape."

3. Show expertise

Creating content that really connects with your audience requires more than just scratching the surface.

It's about demonstrating your expertise and diving deeper to offer meaningful insights and advice that people actually genuinely care about.

Whether it's through your own words, research or by linking to other trusted sources, the key is to provide value that really resonates.

So take a precise and in-depth approach - and cover all the important questions that your readers are likely to have and that you already know they have.

By doing so, you'll be sure to establish yourself as a trustworthy and knowledgeable source/writer, and your content will more than likely stand out from the rest.

Here’s some example text from the same blog post referred to in the section prior. The aim was to show authority.

"A digital asset management (DAM) system is used by large enterprises to edit, manage, and distribute their digital assets - whether that be their company images, videos, documents, audio files, you name it. Besides streamlining asset distribution, improving marketing campaign time-to-value and increasing productivity through workflow automation - DAM also reduces risk through permissions and rights management, ensuring digital assets are legally compliant."

I made sure to provide a clear and concise explanation of what DAM is, and highlight the benefits in terms of asset distribution, marketing campaign efficiency, productivity, and risk reduction.

4. Use statistics and data to increase trust

Our fourth tip is to create high-quality content that relies on real statistics and data to support your claims.

By demonstrating your expertise through factual information from reputable sources, you can establish yourself as a credible authority in your industry.

Your best bet is to avoid resorting to exaggeration or vague insights that you think are the case.

Instead, provide concrete evidence and real data that shows your audience you know what you’re talking about - and that you have their best interests in mind.

That’s the only way you’ll be on the best track forward to create a loyal following of engaged customers, who actually trust your brand and look to you as a reliable source of information.

Take a look at this example from a blog post for Digizuite:

"The reason being that marketing automation has proven to lead to a 14.5% surge in sales productivity along with a 12.2% reduction in marketing expenses."

5. Keep it up to date and relevant

One key element of producing top-notch content is keeping it current and relevant.

Updating your content periodically is not only important when it comes to making sure people find the information they need. It also helps demonstrate that you stay up-to-date with current events and can provide accurate information.

Not only does this foster trust and loyalty among your audience, but it also can enhance your website's SEO performance.

Which is why we recommend you take a moment to refresh your content regularly.

But keep in mind that even the most updated and consistently accurate piece of content won’t be read if it’s far off from what your audience actually wants to read.

So a good tip is to focus on creating content that addresses the genuine needs and desires of your readers all whilst keeping it relevant and fresh with the times.
